Education for all
Abstract
In this chapter, we aim to show how Liangzhu Museum curators and professionals designed an exhibition for and of disabled people. Ethical issues concerning whether museums are accessible for persons with disabilities and how to come up with multi-sensory and multilingual ways of representation of museum knowledge to cater to the needs of marginalized groups are practiced, discussed and reflected upon. It turned out that this special exhibition was an attempt to make the invisible visible and an empowering experience for disabled people, the museum professionals and the visitors. A non-luminous room and the zero-decibel room in particular enabled visitors to realize that disability is just being differently abled in different stages of human life.
