Abstract

With this chapter, we begin a survey of the main varieties of relatively comprehensive metaethical theories. And we start our overall survey with error theory , the view that ethics is all a big mistake. Error theorists about morality believe about the moral roughly what atheists believe about the divine. Just as atheists think it is mistaken to predicate being loved by God or gods of anything, error theorists think there is a mistake in predicating rightness or wrongness of any action, or moral goodness or badness of anything.
