Introduction
Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the goals of this book, and outlines the methods pursued within it. I introduce the field of the sociology of knowledge and discuss some basic features of critical realism as a meta-theoretical approach. I explain and defend the organization of this book, its scope and its relationship to the existing literature.
