Abstract

This chapter explores the role of sports massage within the scope of practise for Graduate Sports Rehabilitators (GSRs), examining its application in injury prevention, recovery, and performance enhancement. Grounded in current evidence and clinical reasoning, it addresses the physiological and psychological effects of soft tissue techniques, as well as contraindications and safety considerations. The chapter outlines key massage methods, session planning, and the integration of manual therapy within broader rehabilitation programmes. Emphasis is placed on communication, consent, and outcome evaluation. Practical guidance is provided to support GSRs in delivering effective, client-centred sports massage interventions across a range of athletic contexts.
