International Comparative Transport Planning Studies
Abstract
This chapter introduces the approach for international comparative studies in the field of urban transport and discusses the key elements that contribute to the success of such studies. It emphasises the importance of analysts paying close attention to the following factors when conducting comparative transport planning studies: (a) Establishing an explicit framework to govern and structure the studies; (b) Considering the endogenous attributes of transport planning; (c) Exploring the exogenous relationships between transport planning and other planning domains such as land use, social, environmental, economic, and sustainability planning; (d) Ensuring a high level of replicability, which involves providing detailed information about the studies, designing a reasonable and reproducible methodology, and sharing materials or data used in the studies. It is essential for good comparative transport planning studies to address these factors effectively. The chapter provides examples and guidance on how to manage each of these elements successfully.
