Abstract

Many therapists with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are skilled at pretending to be a neurotypical therapist, but this approach may lack authenticity and contribute to a feeling of disconnect with one’s true self. By leaning into ADHD, therapists can embrace their strengths and discover how to work with perceived shortcomings rather than against them. This chapter offers suggestions on ways in which therapists with ADHD can provide the best therapy possible while honoring how their neurodivergent brains work.
