Abstract

The family gift intervention engages family members in collaboratively creating a shared gift that benefits everyone in the family. This activity promotes active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills while providing the therapist with real-time insights into family dynamics and relational processes. Its experiential nature fosters play and bonding, which are especially valuable in the context of physical separation. Adaptable for teletherapy, the intervention suits families separated by living arrangements, travel, migration, deployment, incarceration, or other circumstances, offering a meaningful way to maintain connection. This chapter outlines steps for implementing a teletherapy-specific variation of the family gift intervention for families engaging from different locations.
