Abstract

Just as with in-person services, confidentiality is a critical aspect of providing safe and effective teletherapy services to children and adolescents. While all the rules and standards of confidentiality that apply to conventional practice settings apply to teletherapy service, there are additional considerations regarding confidentiality specific to teletherapy practice, especially when working with children and adolescents. In addition to state laws, regulations, and requirements regarding confidentiality in teletherapy, consider the teletherapy platform, use of external websites and applications, privacy on devices used by clients, the therapist’s physical environment, and the client’s physical environment. This chapter outlines these special considerations regarding confidentiality for teletherapy services with children and adolescents.
