Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to housing, including tenure structures, historical housing movements, housing policy, and the ecosystem that exists to finance and develop affordable housing in the US. Housing is a critical component of community development and a foundation for thriving residents and places. Without housing – the largest land use in most cities – community development cannot occur.
