Abstract

Community development is change-related action, which requires both an organizational form and a process for change. Action requires committed community members, people who seek to improve the quality of life for their community. To facilitate change, community actors operate through organizations. Community-based organizations (CBOs) tend to be formed as nonprofit organizations or nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), local grassroots organizations, and more recently as social enterprises. By definition, community development is about organizing people and resources to accomplish common goals.
