Green energy access

The pinwheel – a favorite of my daughter – is symbolic of improving access to renewable energy (SDG 7) for current and future generations. It speaks to the need to address the climate crisis (SDG 13) and its negative effects on the oceans (SDG 14). The diversity of colors reflects the aim not to leave anyone behind (SDG 10), which is the focus of just transitions (including the in-depth case study on South Africa). The chapter also covers how diplomacy plays an integral role in advancing investments and innovations (SDG 9), including the push for greater climate finance. Using the latest data available from the United Nations in 2024, five challenges can be addressed by this transformation hotspot.
