Abstract

The hand holding a plant seedling speaks to the new beginnings sown in addressing the challenges in pollution (SDG 6), biodiversity (SDGs 14 and 15) and climate (SDG 13). The chapter discusses humans’ evolving relationship with nature, focusing on the potential of cooperation (SDG 17) not just to conserve but also to regenerate nature. It explores the potential of sustainable landscape management and engages with cases from the author’s own backyard and from Indonesia, and reviews the rapid rise of regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions. The chapter ends with a charge to break out of the comfort zone, as part of the fabric of successful approaches is greater complexity and a move toward working with as opposed to controlling nature.
