Abstract

This chapter starts with a definition of resilience – and breaks it down over several pages. It highlights how development work shifts if resilience is embedded. The chapter reviews examples of how the UN and USAID have integrated resilience into their policymaking. To showcase its application in development practice, Case Study 15.1 looks at the promises of insurance – ACRE Africa Insurance – in rural East Africa. Case Study 15.2 investigates resilience programming in Nepal by iDE Global in their Anakulan project as an example of resilience-building development efforts that activate all changemakers. The chapter includes iDE’s own journey in evaluating success.
