Where do we go from here?
Abstract
This chapter summarizes Parts I–IV with a forward-looking recap. The chapter presents an argument why people shouldn’t give up. The focus is on taking complexity seriously, and applying the correct tools. As well as the need to face reality, the chapter includes a call to keep the momentum going. It furthermore offers a deeper dive into the increased importance of sub-national diplomacy in a changing world. The chapter concludes by offering three examples of how to avoid repeating the same mistakes to bring about a sustained change: (1) invest in the boring; (2) support organizations, not projects; and (3) don’t force change, but build capacity.
