Abstract

A common theme of this book is that sustained change from top down cannot (successfully) be imposed The three signs proclaiming “Stand together for change” represent individual and collective action to create a shared tenet for common causes. As the third changemaker, it lays out the case for individual and collective action in achieving the SDGs, highlighting the role of civil society in negotiating the SDGs, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and voluntary local reviews. The chapter integrates intersectionality and shows how it relates to environmental causes. A case study on the world’s largest peasant movement – La Via Campesina – is featured, and the chapter concludes with a review of knowledge’s role in stimulating individual and collective action.
