Turning Trauma into Healing
Abstract
This chapter explores the use of storytelling and creative expression as therapeutic tools for trauma recovery. It chronicles the personal journey of actress and educator Lisa Regina, whose experiences with childhood adversity and domestic violence led her to develop the nonprofit organization, A Write to Heal™. Through writing circles, staged performances, and film projects, Regina has provided survivors of domestic violence and military veterans with opportunities to process their experiences, reclaim their voices, and heal through narrative art. The chapter also introduces Regina&s;s current project, Heroic Episodes, which extends her mission by creating relatable, impactful content featuring the authentic stories of trauma survivors. By blending personal narrative with structured healing initiatives, this work demonstrates the transformative power of creativity in overcoming trauma and fostering resilience.
