Tools and debates in computational studies of online circulation of ideology
Abstract
Digital spaces are now omnipresent in our lives. A large proportion of people visit X, Instagram or TikTok every day. These new spaces are not disconnected from political life and a lot of ideological content circulates there. How can we study the circulation of ideology in digital spaces? Focusing on the case of the French radical right, this chapter shows, with new tools, that activists normalise some expressions, opening the door to an elusive type of online hate speech used by many web users, conveying racist values on new digital media.
