Abstract

This chapter discusses the importance of advocacy and including an advocate in any cold case unit, task force, review team, or victim/survivor communication. The value and benefit of using system-based and/or community-based advocates can sometimes be overlooked, but given the complex nature of sudden and violent loss, unsolved crimes, and traumatic grief, a dedicated, compassionate, experienced go-between can be a force multiplier for law enforcement.
