Abstract

Chapter 6 , “From Social and Sacred to Scripted and Staged,” expands Chapter 5 ’s work, considering how moments from the workshop settled into the script of The Wedding itself. Focusing on the collaborative possibility of shifting Muslimness from social to scripted life and back again, the author argues that staging Muslimness reveals the political, personal, professional, and poetic positionalities of his collaborators’ worlds, enabling them to build solidarities with one another and create a complex artistic product. This chapter concludes by suggesting a definition for collaboration, drawing on notions of community and making beyond the world of performance.
