Abstract

Titled “The Muslim Counterpublic,” this final chapter draws out common themes from the overall text, provides a definition of Muslimness, and redefines counterpublics. It also presents a final, hopeful offering: a Muslim counterpublic striving toward social justice. Concluding this book with this image, the author demonstrates the possibilities of interracial and intrareligious community-building that can occur when Muslimness – in all its social, staged, scripted, and sacred breadth – is taken seriously.
