The verbal domain in Russian as a second language
Abstract
This chapter addresses the RSLA of the verbal paradigm, on both the morphological side (processing of verbal morphology) and the semantic side (the meaning of different aspectual forms). The chapter begins with an overview of the Russian verbal conjugational paradigm and the tense/aspect system and reviews relevant studies from child language development before moving on to studies with L2 learners and adult heritage speakers. The studies reviewed fall into two broad classes: those that investigate the production and interpretation of different verbal aspectual forms and those that investigate how different types of learner populations process Russian verbal morphology.
