Filial Therapy With Nonoffending Caregivers and Families of Children Who Have Been Sexually Abused
Abstract
Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) can harm children and their families. Filial Therapy, with its nondirective play-based and family systems approach, helps and supports children, their siblings, and caregivers in positive and empowering ways. This chapter explores the value and power of Filial Therapy where CSA has occurred, highlighted by a case study demonstrating the uniqueness of this integrative and culturally sensitive evidence-based approach.
