Abstract

Sexual abuse in minority communities is a complex issue shaped by cultural stigmas, systemic barriers, and historical mistrust of mental health services. This chapter provides play therapists with an understanding of the multicultural orientation framework to navigate these challenges effectively. It explores the intersection of cultural humility, cultural opportunities, and cultural comfort in addressing the trauma of childhood sexual abuse among minority children and adolescents. Special attention is given to intergenerational trauma, socioeconomic disparities, and community dynamics. Therapists will gain practical strategies to foster healing and resilience. This chapter emphasizes the importance of cultural understanding, community collaboration, and culturally responsive therapeutic approaches to ensure that all children and adolescents receive the support they need within a safe and affirming space.
