Abstract

This chapter presents some scenarios in which people may find themselves wishing that the documents they need to read were in plain language. It also offers some insights into why some writers may resist using plain language and suggests that translators are good candidates for developing plain language skills and responding to the need for plain language practitioners. In addition, this chapter introduces the content in the remainder of the book.
