Conclusions
Abstract
This conclusion synthesises the central arguments of Faces and the City , presenting a comprehensive analysis of how the human face functions as a semiotic operator within urban environments. Building on the triadic framework of surface, interface and text, it integrates biological, inscribed, performative and digital faces into a unified typology of urban facial presence. This chapter discusses the concept of the urban facesphere, where facial representations and practices act as critical vectors of meaning-making, power negotiation and collective memory. Two key sections analyse (1) the typological roles of faces in the city and (2) the implications of the city as a site of maximal facial density. This chapter concludes with an in-depth discussion of the study’s limitations – geographical, thematic and methodological – and outlines detailed directions for future research and practical applications in urban design and digital memorialisation.
