Abstract

In following the processes of resourcing the organisation, this chapter outlines key aspects of the actual appointment of the selected candidate and their introduction to the firm and the work group. Firstly, the critical elements of a job offer procedure are considered, highlighting the most important features of an offer letter. Further examples of job acceptance and new starter formats are given, all designed to ensure a smooth appointment process. The remainder of the chapter concentrates on the initial induction process of introducing the new employee to their role, team and the organisation. This continues in the form of onboarding that carries on beyond the initial days and weeks to settle the employee within the work environment. The significance for the future performance and commitment of the new worker is stressed, the benefits of high-quality induction procedures being considered in detail. Increasingly, most organisations also use this opportunity to foster a sense of belonging and develop staff engagement.
