Abstract

The aim of this chapter is not to describe in detail legislation relating to employment. There are many volumes and sources of information on this ever-changing subject area. Instead, the chapter sets out to identify the general scope of employment law relevant to hospitality human resource management which may be subject to national political, economic, social, environmental and technological developments. Key areas covered include contract law, pay, health safety and wellbeing, technology, sustainability, rights of non-UK citizens, the role of trade unions, terminating employment. Examples of issues pertaining to the hospitality industry and its everyday operations are included throughout the chapter.
