Abstract

Within the operational realm of Human Resource Management (HRM), activities surrounding attracting and recruiting of employees are some of the most critical and challenging. This chapter reviews the recruitment process of attracting and fully engaging employees by both traditional and more contemporary, technology-based methods. Beginning with the strategic human resource planning context, there is consideration of operational workforce planning and of specific hospitality industry issues. The recruitment process is considered from both internal, competitive and external perspectives, from social media platforms to classified advertisements in local press. There is overall guidance on recruitment advertising, the generic principles of which apply to all forms of media used to illustrate both the planning element and contemporary hospitality recruitment strategy.
