Transvariations
Abstract
This research investigates the possibilities of radical interpretations or (re)creations in the context of Western-Art piano repertoire. In this scope, live audio processing of the acoustic piano sound was used to create timbral variations. Objectives were to explore how sonic variation can enhance nuances of musical expression, and to verify new territories of interpretation: the performer will hear the modified instrumental timbre in real-time, and we expect this to influence how they play. The research was conducted through experimental methods, i.e. implementing a set of live processing effects and performing the piece live with these timbral modifications.
