‘We Only have to Draw’
Abstract
Through the development of a learner-focused web app for graphical sound composition, KlangPad , common themes in the work of composers Iannis Xenakis and Daphne Oram have come to light. The parallel themes of autonomy, freedom, and education are forefront in the development of these composers’ graphical composition systems, UPIC and Oramics . These common themes are discussed in relation to the development of KlangPad along with current and future developments for the web app that are directly inspired by these composers’ work.
