Abstract

AI tools significantly benefit commercial contexts by reducing costs and production time. However, many musicians find the idea of using AI to generate complete musical tracks unappealing, as their passion lies in the creative process and personal expression. Nevertheless, this does not mean they are uninterested in using AI. AI tools for music production offer a wide range of possibilities to support musicians’ work without dictating it. This article examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on music production by providing an overview of current AI-assisted tools used in music composition, production, and generation, and demonstrating their uses through research-based music production. Further, it addresses fears of AI replacing human creativity, arguing that musicians tend to adopt new tools in ways that enhance, rather than replace, the creative process. While AI will continue to shape the future of music, its influence will be guided by the ways musicians integrate it, ensuring that creativity and artistic integrity remain at the forefront.
