Abstract

Coping generally involves changing in accordance with or enduring negative events or real factors while attempting to maintain a positive mental self-image and emotional well-being. Coping happens with regards to life changes that are perceived as unpleasant. Psychological stress is typically connected with negative life-altering events, for example, losing a job or a loved one. Notwithstanding, some circumstances that require coping may evoke (bring out) comparative coping reactions from a great many people. For instance, business-related stressors are more likely to inspire problem-solving strategies. Stressors that are seen to be manageable are more likely to inspire critical thinking methodologies while stressors seen to be unchangeable are more likely to prompt social support seeking and emotion-centred strategies. By the end of this chapter, you will be able to understand what stress is, the different patterns people can experience, what coping is, strategies for effective coping mechanisms and styles, and how individuals and organizations develop resilience.
