Abstract

This chapter explores the transformation of the political discourse of Spain’s Partido Popular (PP) concerning Israel from 1996 to 2014. It begins by examining parliamentary debates involving the PP from 1996 to 2010, then analyzes Jos Mara Aznar’s speeches, articles, and conference presentations between 2006 and 2014. The goal is to demonstrate how the portrayal of Israel evolved within the discourse of Spain’s primary right-wing party. Particular attention is given to the role of the topos of philosephardism in driving this discursive shift.
