Abstract

In this chapter, I employ a framework of anti-oppressive, decolonising therapy and liberation psychology approaches to tackle the complexities of treating compulsive sexual behaviour (CSB) among individuals from the Global Majority. It examines the roles of supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism in shaping both the therapeutic landscape and the lived experiences of these individuals. Illustrated through case studies and practical examples, the chapter outlines culturally responsive therapeutic models that enhance understanding and empathy in clinical practices. It advocates for a transformative approach that prioritises cultural humility and challenges traditional power dynamics inherent in psychotherapeutic settings. The chapter concludes by proposing practical guidelines for therapists that foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding, emphasising systemic changes necessary in the mental health field to better serve diverse populations. This work provides actionable insights for embedding these principles into ongoing professional development and therapy practices, aiming for a more equitable and effective approach to CSB treatment.
