Ask for It
Abstract
Research has shown that feedback might be less scary to receive and more likely to be used when the recipient is in the driver’s seat. Feeling powerless, like feedback is “happening to you,” or getting defensive are common reactions to being on the receiving end of feedback. This chapter helps provides readers with a set of tools for owning and making the most of their feedback by proactively asking for it, seeing themselves at 50% of the feedback exchange, and recognizing that they always have a choice about what to do with the feedback they receive.
