Journey to the West in translation studies

This chapter presents a ‘distant reading’ or comprehensive overview of existing research on translation of Journey to the West , both in English and Chinese, including Chinese publications that may not be easily accessible to English readers. By employing a bibliometric approach, the chapter analyses both the English publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database and the Chinese publications in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database on translation of the Chinese classic novel. It analyses these publications from the aspects of research categories, research topics, top keywords and keyword clusters. By doing so, it sketches the knowledge space of translation of the Chinese novel.
