Abstract

This concluding chapter provides a recapitulation of the research findings from the previous chapters about the English translations and retranslations of Journey to the West and discusses them from the aspects of canonisation, retranslation, style and genre, illuminating the role of translation in (re)canonisation as well as stylistic transformations and genre shifts through translation and retranslation. It also discusses the contribution of the research as well as possible limitations. The chapter culminates by proposing potential avenues for future research and some practical implications for Chinese literature going global through translation.
