Abstract

Drawing on the growing convergence of research in the fields of digital pedagogies and EAP, this chapter reconciles different perspectives in digital and online learning, with a view to bringing together a collection of pedagogical insights to inform the development of effective online pedagogies for the teaching of EAP. Drawing on research on digital pedagogy in online asynchronous contexts, we discuss how EAP teaching can be supported online, reflecting on the digital recontextualization of key factors integral to effective language teaching and learning, such as interaction and engagement. We subsequently review the current state of the art in online synchronous learning and identify effective means for teaching and learning through and with technology. To put this research into practice, a case study is then presented, designed to guide researchers and practitioners on the effective implementation and evaluation of online EAP classes. The chapter closes with a critical reflection on the future of online EAP.
