Scoping a Problem
Abstract
Taking time to understand a problem makes it easier to identify options for improvement. This chapter describes ways of prioritising problems to tackle, and options for understanding the problem in as much detail as possible. Prioritisation matrices, affinity diagrams and Pareto diagrams are described. These processes are best done as a group. This is because different staff members will have views of different parts of the processes involved, and because involvement promotes ongoing engagement with the work.
