Abstract

Spreading change ranges from extending an effective improvement project to another team in the same building, to spreading change ideas across a practice group, hospital service, or country. While complexity increases, many of the principles are similar and smaller services can profitably apply research-based evidence on what makes change more likely to spread, and to be sustained in the new site. This chapter describes approaches to change at scale, including the spread of an intervention and the use of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Collaborative model. Teams of any size will identify ideas relevant to them.
