Using a Problem Solving Plan
Abstract
The primary session goals are to discuss how to use and implement a Problem Solving Plan for teens. In the large group, caregivers and teens review how to use a Problem Solving Plan to try out and evaluate a solution to a challenge. Several examples will be reviewed so that caregivers and teens understand how they can use a Problem Solving Plan. In the teen group, teens identify possible rewards that they can earn for trying out solutions that they identify on their individualized Problem Solving Plans. In the caregiver group, caregivers discuss how to set up an effective Problem Solving Plan for their teen by identifying a problem, solution, plan and expectations, and reward. For the Real World Practice Assignment, the teen and their caregiver will complete their first Problem Solving Plan and start working on the solution that was identified for the problem.
