Abstract

The primary session goals are to review various study strategies with an emphasis on using study cards. The Problem Solving Plan for each teen is reviewed as a group and the solutions, plans and expectations, and rewards are modified as needed. In the large group, caregivers and teens identify the study strategies that are most successful for them. They also learn how to use the 4–7 rule to make information stick in their brain when studying for tests. Finally, the steps for creating a study card are reviewed and practiced. In the teen group, teens discuss how their Problem Solving Plan went over the last week and get additional practice with creating study cards using the 4–7 rule. In the caregiver group, caregivers discuss how their teen&s;s Problem Solving Plan went over the last week and trouble shoot how to edit the current solutions and add a solution related to studying for tests. For the Real World Practice Assignment, the teen and their caregiver will update their Problem Solving Plan and continue working on several solutions.
