Editing
Abstract
This chapter starts by discussing why DAW windows should be optimised to show only what is really necessary and how the edit window can be made to show the arrangement of the song – allowing the engineer to identify and access sections more quickly and providing a visual indication of the arrangement density. Why everything that has been recorded may not be necessary in a mix is discussed. The discussion then focuses on editing the beginnings and ends of audio regions and removing clicks and pops from files so that the reader can ensure their mix is free from these undesirable noises. Various vocal editing techniques are explored, including forming the final track from different parts of several takes and pitch correction and time correction of solo tracks and layered stacks.
