Abstract

In this chapter, desirable amplitude balance concepts are discussed, as well as why commercial mixes might sound different from a reader’s mix ‘in progress’. Processing related to amplitude and gain is explored, so that the reader understands the differences and limitations of different types of adjustments. Several channel metering options are described, along with what desirable levels on those metering systems are. Best practices regarding how to manage levels throughout a mixing session are presented. Management of amplitude balance when mixing is discussed, along with methods to control and adjust amplitudes in a mix, the differences between various methods, and what each is best used for.
