Abstract

Chapter 3 explores the dilemma of the presence of the body in psychoanalysis and draws implications for online therapy. It explores the theoretical, technical, and practical aspects of avoiding touch and need gratification in psychotherapy, focusing on the Still-Face experiment as an example of the risks of avoiding eye contact and body attunement, and suggesting creative ways to compensate for the disembodied environment online.
