Abstract

Research suggests that therapists still experience uncertainty regarding their capabilities in online therapy. In Chapter 7, I have gathered the recommendations for training psychodynamic psychotherapists to work online, based on the information provided in previous chapters. Such training programs should prioritize adaptation to the distinct attributes of the virtual environment. Essential areas of focus include cultivating flexibility and creativity to promote presence and effectively address the limitations inherent in remote communication. This chapter explores the critical need for specialized training that underscores the significance of flexibility and presence, delves into engaging with the virtual body, addresses transference and countertransference dynamics, and discusses ethical considerations. It offers comprehensive recommendations for designing and implementing effective training programs in online psychodynamic psychotherapy.
