Abstract

Community sport is increasingly being positioned by policymakers, researchers, and sports development practitioners as a means to support the integration of migrants in resettlement countries. Yet, the widespread public and political belief that sport will facilitate integration into mainstream society is a contested issue. This chapter begins by providing a critical analysis of theory and policy development in migrant sport participation and integration. We then draw from the literature to explore the integration of migrants in and through mainstream and migrant sporting contexts. Last, we explore key issues and opportunities within the field in relation to policy, practice, and research.
