Governance and Ethics in Sports Development
Abstract
Governance and ethics serve as the foundation of effective sports development, ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainability across global sport systems. As the governance of sport has evolved, it has transitioned from centralised, state-led models to more decentralised, multi-actor frameworks that incorporate international federations, state actors, private stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. This chapter examines the shifting landscape of sport governance, emphasising the interplay between structural reforms, ethical considerations, and stakeholder engagement. We analyse several case studies to illustrate these developments and the links between global organisations and local sports development processes. In conclusion, we discuss how the future of sport governance is being shaped by rapid technological advancements, shifting social priorities, and increasing demands for transparency and accountability.
