Abstract

This chapter explores the critical role of interpersonal competence in shaping psychologically safe and collaborative workplaces. Through a narrative review, it examines the behavioural foundations of interpersonal effectiveness and identifies key competencies such as emotional intelligence (EI), cultural sensitivity, and communication skills that underpin healthy organisational dynamics. The chapter offers practical strategies at both individual and organisational levels, including leadership development, inclusive practices, and performance systems that prioritise relational excellence. By reframing interpersonal competence as a strategic imperative, this chapter contributes to contemporary leadership discourse and provides a roadmap for cultivating more connected, resilient, and human-centred organisations.
