Abstract

This chapter inspires us to use adaptive and versatile facilitation styles to aid inclusion. The strategies shared show us how to pose questions using coaching techniques and frame activities thoughtfully. Specific facilitation methods are employed to help to build bravery in participants, to manage interactions for socially withdrawn learners, or to ease the burden of language translation. Trainers share methods for moderation, such as trouble-shooting live wellbeing issues (when covering sensitive topics) and enhancing equality in the training room by managing interruptions. Alternative ways to motivate and guide learners are explored through body doubling and non-verbal tactile play. We also consider non-judgemental ways to read the room and receive moments of disengagement. This chapter inspires us to use adaptive and versatile facilitation styles to aid inclusion.
